I don\’t know about you but there are so many warnings about ADHD psychostimulants now that I have stopped being surprised or shocked. We never hear any negative reviews on natural products for ADHD. The natural remedies for ADHD critics will sneer that very few conclusive tests have been done to show that natural products for ADHD actually are effective. They also raise questions about the long term effects of these remedies – this is laughable as there are no studies done on the long term risks and effects of ADHD psychostimulants. At least they have not been published.

Everybody seems to be getting on the ADHD bandwagon. I am not talking just about doctors and pediatricians here but also parents and teachers. Some unscrupulous parents actually WANT an ADHD diagnosis so that they can claim government funds or even special facilities at school such as one-to-one tuition or very small classes. Teachers are setting themselves up as doctors and recommending parents to put the ADHD child on Ritalin so there is no disruptive behaviour in their classes. When the psychostimulants (Adderall, Metadate, Dexedrine and Cylert) do not work with some ADHD children, they are put on anti-depressants.

There are no negative reviews on natural products for ADHD as regards possible side effects because there aren\’t any. Compare that to :- insomnia, weight loss, stunted growth, \’zombie\’ behaviour, mood swings, loss of appetite, heart problems, nervous tics and the latest one is hallucinations. These are some of the side effects of amphetamine drugs (remember \’speed\’? – it\’s the same !).

There are positive reviews on natural products for ADHD but they are rarely published because they have no financial backing. Basically there are no side effects and they are perfectly safe. There is no risk of drug abuse. There is no need for medical monitoring. The most popular natural products are homeopathic remedies.

Look at the work done by Stephen Hinshaw of UC Berkeley who is an ADHD expert. He studied attention deficit disorders in children who were prescribed Ritalin for a period of two years. These unfortunate children were an inch shorter in height and weighed 8 pounds less than the children who were not on medication ! That is what they mean by \’stunted growth\’. The FDA says more research needs to be done but that study was published five years ago, so the stunted growth issue has been brushed under the carpet.

Most experts now recommend medication in conjunction with psychotherapy, counselling or behaviour therapy. There is an issue here with the insurance companies so the cost of these treatments may be prohibitive. All the reviews of natural products for ADHD report that a homeopathic remedy is ideal in that it can be used in combination therapy and is perfectly safe, effective and free of side effects. Make sure you study the remedies and the manufacturing process and also if the facility is FDA approved. The link below will take you to one of the most reputable companies in this field and they offer iron clad guarantees.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the newest name that has been given to a group of disorders of the central nervous system. With the long list of names this disorder has been given over the years, it is often confusing as to which criteria are for a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD. It is estimated that between 3 and 5 percent of children in the United States have ADHD, meaning that at least one child in a classroom of twenty-five to thirty children will have ADHD. There are three times as many boys diagnosed with ADHD, but the condition is increasingly being diagnosed in girls as well.

Although ADHD was primarily thought of as a childhood disorder, it can be found in adults as well. Experts have estimated that as many as 8 million adults may be affected, but 80 percent of them do not realize it. Some studies show that there is significant decline in ADHD symptoms as a person ages, while others estimate that between 30 and 70 percent of children with ADHD will carry some symptoms into adulthood. ADHD is a more complex disorder in adults, but it manifests itself into a problem with self-regulation. Without this self-control, an adult’s ability to do tasks is impaired. This condition can lead to marital conflicts, substance abuse, and financial problems. Infidelity is common because ADHD adults easily become bored with things, including spouses.

Factors that have been linked to the development of ADHD include heredity, anxiety, allergies, smoking during pregnancy, hyperinsulinemia, oxygen deprivation at birth, environmental stress or pollutants, artificial food additives, injury, infection, lead poisoning, and prenatal trauma. More emphasis has been placed on the role of diet in ADHD in recent years. Many people with these conditions react to certain preservatives, dyes, and salicylates in foods. These problems can cause the balance of chemistry in the brain to be thrown off, which produces undesirable changes in behavior. A low-protein diet may also be a contributing factor. Although a hotly debated topic for decades, studies have definitely shown that food additives do play a major role in hyperactivity.

Many researchers feel that ADHD is being over-diagnosed nowadays. It is difficult to accurately diagnose this condition because many of the symptoms appear in the normal, healthy children at many times during childhood. In fact, more than 60 percent of parents suspect that their child has ADHD at some point in their upbringing. What may merely be creativity or a high energy level can be diagnosed as ADHD. A diagnosis of ADHD should be made by a team of specialists who are experts in the disorder and it is wise to get a second opinion.

One should considered nutritional deficiencies and dietary measures for treating ADHD. The following nutrients are recommended: calcium, magnesium, GABA, a multivitamin and mineral complex, Omega-3 fish oil, Pycnogenol, Quercetin, SAMe, acetylcholine, DMAE, l-cysteine, phosphatidyl serine, vitamin C with bioflavonoids, and zinc. Additionally, the following herbs may be beneficial: ginkgo biloba, ginseng, mullein oil, valerian root, catnip, chamomile, gotu kola, hops, kava kava, lemon balm, licorice, lobelia, oats, passionflower, skullcap, St. John’s wort, thyme, and wood betony.

Creating a nutritionally sound diet for children and adults can go a long way to controlling ADHD and ADD in general. Reducing sugar intake and adding good quality food that hasn’t been over processed which removes the needed vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients we all need to live healthy lives. The above vitamins, minerals and herbs are suggested to be helpful for those suffering as well as those who aren’t, but always consult your health care provider before adding dietary supplements to ones diet while on prescription drugs. Quality vitamins can be found at your local or internet health food store.

Guess which drug is the most popular among college students for cheating? ADHD medication! That is the hot choice at the moment, beating steroids into second place. The supply comes from the millions of kids who are or have been on Adderall, Ritalin or Concerta. That, for me, is the main argument for choosing natural remedies for ADHD which will never lead to drug abuse.

Before we look more closely at ADHD natural remedies let us try and concentrate (if we don\’t suffer from ADHD ourselves!) on what causes all these problems in the child\’s and adult\’s brains.
Basically there is a fault in the neurotransmitters in the brain and these control how we pay attention, concentrate and make decisions. It is as if the phone signal in our brains is breaking up all the time. So, naturally communication breaks down. In the case of ADHD, there is a lack of focus, resulting in inattention, poor concentration, impulsiveness and erratic behaviour. Very often, due to frustration, aggression and depression develop.

The drug companies claim that in medicating children with ADHD, psychostimulant drugs can be effective in 70% -80% of cases. This may be true, in part, but we also know that after a time, these drugs are no longer effective. Frustration and anger can surface and in some cases, listlessness and depression are added to the child\’s long list of problems. This is where natural remedies for ADHD have a distinct advantage.

The herbs and homeopathic remedies which make up the ADHD natural remedies are :- Lemon balm, St. John\’s Wort, Gingko Biloba, Skullcap, Passionflower , Gotu Kola and Hawthorn. These have been shown to be effective in improving concentration and general brain function. There are no side effects and parents have reported vast improvements in behavioural problems, attention and concentration.

As well as natural remedies for ADHD, parents also have to consider diet and how to avoid foods which contain damaging food colourings and dyes which have been shown to have a negative effect on behaviour and attention. There is a very good website organised by the IATP (Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy). If you visit their site you will find the very handy \’Brain Food Selector\’ which identifies all the candies, sweets and snacks which contain preservatives, additives and food colourings (mostly petroleum derived). The European Union and the UK have already banned these and the FDA in the USA has issued guidelines about highlighting natural colour without ever having to use synthetic food dyes.

Avoiding synthetic food dyes may help but it is only part of a combined treatment strategy for ADHD. Natural remedies for ADHD are now getting a lot of attention from the media and parents themselves who are becoming more and more wary of ADHD medications. You can check the site below and find out more about these ADHD natural remedies , without putting your child\’s health at risk.

I have just read about a mother who started a search for a natural supplement for ADHD after she read about a boy who was on three different prescriptions for ADHD and died of an overdose. Her own child who was on psychostimulants was extremely underweight and he was fading away before her eyes. So, did this mother find the natural supplements for ADHD she was looking for ? She persisted and her son was given Kava Kava, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin B complex, Melatonin for sleep problems, Gabba and Vitamin C. Within three years, her son was greatly improved and the ADHD symptoms of hyperactivity, restlessness and lack of focus had all greatly improved. In this particular case, it was a miracle because she was able to stop ADHD medication which she was so worried about.

Frankly there has not been enough research done on these natural supplements for ADHD and the jury is out on a lot of them. In this case it is a mirage because the magic natural supplement for ADHD has not yet been found ! However let us have a look at the ones which have been backed by more research and/or have given promising results. In many cases, it is sufficient to feed a child a healthy balanced diet and the supplements I outline below will be an added benefit because in many cases, they alleviate ADHD symptoms.

My favourite natural supplement for ADHD is Valerian which is great for helping children to sleep and there has been enough research to show that it is safe enough. I use it myself to sleep. Valerian has done well on some trials showing that children on it were able to get to sleep much quicker. It is sometimes given when children are on medication as they have problems in falling asleep. I would not use Melatonin which has been found to be risky for sexual development in children.

The Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are called essential because our bodies cannot make this substance and ADHD children have lower levels of these. Fish oils, flaxseed oil and olive oil are all sources of Omega3 and Omega 6 , which are the main components. The jury is still out on these but there were good results form an experiment with Vitamin C and flaxseed oil which did reduce fidgeting, impulsiveness and erratic behaviour.

Wise parents may add Vitamin C and fish oils to their children’s diet if they are not getting the full amount of fruit and vegetables every day. That is probably the best and safest thing to do. The best solution of all is to opt for a natural ADHD homeopathic remedy which is free from side effects and is non-addictive which no conventional ADHD medication can claim to-day. You may want to know what ingredients are selected and why they are selected. Also, what guidelines and practices are being followed. You should be wary of any natural supplement for ADHD which is not backed by guarantees of safety and purity. The link below will take you to one of the most renowned companies in the USA for natural remedies.

There is no correlation between people suffering from ADHD and their accomplishments in life. Albert Einstein, Nelson Rockefeller, Galileo, and Thomas Edison are just some of the few famous people who suffer with ADHD.

ADHD can be treated with new drug called Focalin XR. ADHD is more prevalent in boys than girls. There are three types of ADHD, namely predominantly inattentive type, predominantly hyperactive/ impulsive type and a combination of both.

As the name implies, the predominantly inattentive type has symptoms of inattention i.e. absentmindedness, distractibility, a short attention span, and difficulty organizing things. The person suffering from predominantly hyperactive / impulsive ADHA has symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity i.e. unable to be seated in one place for a prolonged period, difficulty for waiting his/her turn. In the combined type, both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity is observed.

After dinner walks, playing in the yard and other outside activities reduces ADHD symptoms. Your diet is also a factor in treating ADHD symptoms. The brand of cookie, potato chip, and ice cream you select in the grocery shop, and the vegetable or fruit you prefer will have a direct effect on your health, ability, and behavior. The products you buy in the grocery shop may contain some chemicals that activate irritability or hyperactivity.

The holistic approach with naturopathic drugs proved to be more effective than the strong and addictive psychiatric drugs (Ritalin, Concerta, and Adderall) in the ADHD treatment. The herbal remedies are used to treat the symptoms gently and effectively.

Common herbal remedies for the treatment of ADHD are Ginkgo biloba, Scuttellaria laterifolia (skull cap), Matricaria recutita(German chamomile), Centella asiatica( Gotu cola) Avina sativa( Green oats), Utrica urens ( Umbabazane in Africa) and Aspalathus linearis ( Rooibos). A natural remedy is less detrimental to your overall health than that of prescription drugs. Children who are using psychiatric drugs such as Ritalin, Concreta and Adderall may develop an addiction and other side effects to their health.

People with ADHD may have other related conditions such as learning disorders, ophthalmic convergence insufficiency, conduct disorder, and antisocial personality disorder. ADHD patients are more likely to have a family member with ADHD or one of the related conditions, implying that ADHD may be genetic.

Are you just plain fed up with hearing about ADHD drugs and all the horror stories that go with them? You will not be surprised to hear that ADHD natural cures are becoming more popular. Why? At the end of the day, the parent has to weigh up the benefits, risks and cost of any treatment they will opt for. I can tell you that ADHD natural cures score very highly. If they are combined with a sensible nutrition program with some behavioural therapy, then that is probably the best therapy there is.

Any kid growing up with ADHD and who is not treated at all, will risk taking it into adulthood with all the problems that is going to bring in the workplace and in social relationships. I know a guy who spent his youth bouncing off walls, felt a failure at school and ended up with severe depression. The problem with treating ADHD with psychostimulants is that their side effects are often so troublesome that they end up taking several medications to combat the side effects. With ADHD natural cures, that is just NOT a problem as there are no side effects and you never will have a problem changing the medication, the dose and having to put the child through ECGs and other awful medical monitoring. The remedies are easy to administer as well.

Very often, schools insist on having the ADHD child treated with psychostimulant drugs that are now household names – Vyvense, Concerta, Adderall XR and the notorious Ritalin which has been on the market for 40 years. Training teachers to cope with ADHD kids might be a better idea. To reduce squirming and fidgeting in class, students are now given stability balls to sit on. These allow them to wriggle a bit more but they have to concentrate more to stay sitting and this improves concentration. The stability balls helped all students but especially those with ADHD as their restlessness decreased. The drug companies claim that ADHD meds will improve concentration and help them to stay focused but at what price ? That they have to be listless, depressed and lose their appetite? Again, treating attention deficit disorder naturally, these problems do not exist.

In looking at costs and whether these are covered by your medical insurance, ADHD natural cures are much less expensive than all the psychostimulant drugs out there which are all basically amphetamines! So why is the nation spending a fortune on mind altering drugs for our children when the risks of addiction and abuse are only sadly too well known? In treating attention deficit disorder naturally, you will never even have to worry about that or have sleepless nights. There is no risk of addiction at all with these remedies. To find out more about their safety, standards of manufacture and their guarantees, click on this link. You can then make your choice weighing up the benefits, risks and costs.

Whether you are concerned for a child who has been recently diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or you are slowly realizing that you may be an adult who suffers from the same, you will find that there is a lot of information out there on natural cures for ADHD. Not terribly long ago, Ritalin and other drugs in that family were prescribed almost unilaterally across the board for this condition, but given the fact that the long term results of the drugs are not known, more and more people are looking for natural treatments for ADHD.

When you are thinking about finding natural cures for ADHD, you’ll find that one of the first factors that you are going to need to address is diet. Recent research has shown that people with ADHD respond very well to changes in their diet, and the younger the person suffering from the disorder, the better they do. Essentially, though there are many specific diets that are meant to treat ADHD specifically, you will find that you can do quite well simply eating more whole grains, fresh greens, fruits and lean meats. There is a fair amount of research that states that preservatives in foods and too much complex carbohydrates are not necessarily good for people who suffer from ADHD.

One important factor of looking into diet when searching for natural treatments for ADHD would be essential fatty acids. For some people, this is the main factor that they need to address when they are looking to cure ADHD naturally. You will find that you can eat foods that contain these acids or you can find good supplements that will provide you with the same.

Among the natural cures for ADHD, you’ll discover that one that is mentioned repeatedly is the elimination of excessive sugars from the diet. The truth is that sugars, specifically ones that have been over processed, can make ADHD worse. The problem with too much refined sugar in the diet is that it will give the sufferer a burst of energy that abruptly tapers off. The highs that the sugars provide contrast strongly with the lows that happen afterwards, and this can put a great deal of stress on the body.

If you are curious about finding natural treatments for ADHD, you’ll discover that there are also certain deficiencies that can go with this disorder and which can make it worse. One such deficiency is magnesium, and along with ADHD, you’ll find that symptoms include restlessness, anxiety, irritability, and depression. These are all symptoms that you are likely to see in people who suffer from ADHD as well, and treating a magnesium deficiency through supplements and diet is an important thing to consider.

Finding natural cures for ADHD that will work for you or your child can be a little time consuming, but the truth is that many people find it rewarding. Take some time and really consider what your options are going to be; chances are, you can relieve the symptoms of ADHD or even get rid of them entirely through a little bit of experimentation and observation.

The medical and behavioral side effects of ADD medications such as Ritalin and Adderall have many parents searching for natural alternatives for their hyperactive children. While traditional medications can be effective, the risks are many, and reactions differ from child to child. As parents become disillusioned with prescription ADD medications or simply decide to try natural alternatives first, more and more are turning to natural ADD supplements. And as more natural medications are developed, more is known about the ingredients that are most effective in treating the symptoms of ADD.

Ginko Biloba is one of the best-known natural remedies for ADD. It helps to increase neurotransmitter levels and blood flow to the brain, which aids the brain’s ability to focus. One of the most positive qualities of Ginko Biloba is the tendency of its effects to become permanent, which eventually renders continued use unnecessary. This quality is emblematic of many homeopathic ingredients.

Brahmi is an herb that is believed to have many positive effects on the brain, including an ability to increase overall cognitive function. It can help improve your child’s ability to learn, and recent research shows it might have an additional benefit of protecting the brain from free radicals.

Gotu Kola, otherwise known as Centella Asiatica, is an excellent child ADHD treatment (and ADD treatment) and can reduce reduce your child’s anxiety level and augment his or her brain function. It also enhances memory and has been shown in studies to improve blood flow to the brain and general circulation.

Skullcap is an herbal remedy for ADD that is used to treat common symptoms like restlessness and agitation. It can also aid in combating insomnia.

St. John’s Wort is another natural supplement that should be taken long-term in order for its positive effects to become permanent. It should be used if your child is suffering from depression, insomnia, fear or anxiety.

All of these ingredients can alleviate many of the symptoms of ADD, and there are a variety of natural remedies, such as BrightSpark, on the market that combine some of the listed ingredients to produce successful results. Natural remedies are a predominantly safe and effective ADD treatment, and a popular alternative to prescription stimulants and other traditional ADD medications. Abruptly stopping prescription medication can be harmful to your child, so if you decide to take this step, consult your doctor before changing your child’s routine. Just as with traditional medications, it can take time for your child to feel the effects of natural supplements, and each child can react slightly differently. Hopefully, you will find that natural remedies have a positive influence on your child, and on your life.
