I have ADHD and I use my hyperness to get my work load done. Many times I have finished my tasks and this allows me to help coworkers finish theirs.

the symptoms of adhd, are also the symptoms of alot of other things.

Whether someone has it or not is actually really hard to pinpoint.

For me i have a hard time focusing alot because im so depressed all the time, i could easily go to the doc and get diagnosed with add but i know thats its the depression because i suffer from horrible acne which will all go away with accutane.

It takes a seriously smart person to diagnose add, im pretty sure most docs misdiagnose a good 70% of the time. Thats just a wild guess.

I also have this condition and there are tricks and tips to be known. The main trick to controlling it is to first off understand your self. If you can controll your thoughts and actions well enough with out durgs then don’t use them. But if you have problems with calming down or focusing then use drugs.

The greats in the old days did not take the drugs we have to day so they had a greater sense of self awearness. Know they self is great advice.

Another way to controll and use this condition is to change how you do certain things to maxmise and anticipate your short attention span. Try spliting tasks like cleaning your room into many small tasks that you can work on in steps. That way when you jump around you will do a couple of steps of a lot of things that will add up to the final task.

Learn to delegate, Edison and Kennedy had people to do certain things for them, office aids and lab assistents can be a great help. Having people that keep you on track and take care of other things to keep them from distracting you are great.

Learn to controll your moving attention span. I listen to music while doing other things so my mind has something else to think about. I think that having music playing gives your mind a kind of release and distraction so that you can focus more on something specific.

Try to control stimuli when doing something important. It is hard enough to do paper work with ADHD with out a tv in the cornor grabbing your eye and attention every 5 seconds. Keep things that are ment to grab attention way from your point of view if you want to focus on something.

Over all I recommend that you look upon your self and ask at what point do I need help. If you are studying hard but jump around at test time and fail then look into taking medication to help focus on it. Taking them only on test or important times will hinder addiction and dependence. Remember, Know thy self.

As an adult with ADD, I chose to begin using precribed Ritalin and Adderal at age 38 – things just got to the point where I couldn’t even pay bills or hold down a job or relationship.
I was even self-medicating with illegal stimulants.

Now, my mind is more focused and I have no urge to use illegal drugs. Bills are paid, I’m making more money, and I’ve been in a relationship for 1.6 years.

Some days I don’t take any prescribed stimulants and the doctor is okay with it. I take them when I need them according to the direction on the bottle (use when distracted). When the effect wears off, there is no withdrawal or hangover.

The drugs are controlled and you get a limited supply. Yes, they can be abused, but if you have ADD, you will tend to use them properly.

    Good luck with it.

I would think it would be a good idea to read a little about the people you have mentioned. They say that Edison did not sleep very much, that he took "cat naps", between his activities. Many people use lists to help keep them organized and ontask. If you do some more reading, I believe the book that discusses the 7 habits of highly successful people may have some helpful information. Think success, and think what you really like to do. It seems that anyone, but especially someone with ADD or ADHD needs to be doing something they really like to do. With ADHD, you are going to be a little less patient with the things that you don’t find interesting, or annoying, so you need to try to be in the place where it is more suited to your interests, so that you can grow. Find the little steps you have taken and the small successes and build on each of those. How do you like to learn? My son loves to watch documentaries on T.V. and he says he learns from those. Do you function with a plan? If so, use the lists to help you keep organized. Do you function better at one particular time of day? Maybe that would be the best time to be working or studying. Find what you love, and work toward it. Read about those people, but also read about other successful people, and see what each of them did. Also, limit the sugar in your diet, as well as caffiene, and you will probably find you can concentrate a little better. A lot of ADHD people also have some difficulties with milk. Read about food "allergies" or "intolerances" and ADHD. Additionally, try to compliment yourself. List all of the good qualities you have. If you like other people, list that. If you can get things done quickly, list that. If you have a good sense of humor, list that. Anything that could be considered positive should be on the list, and ask a friend or relative to pitch some ideas in, as usually other people can see the good in us, better than we can. Then work with those things.
