One of the most interesting facts on ADHD was the story of boy who was misdiagnosed with ADHD and suffered nasty side effects from ADHD medications for a number of years. Thanks to his parents who did some research on ADHD and the facts, they found that the symptoms were caused by a parasite ! Bear in mind that ADHD can mimic other conditions. Here are a few :- the child may be epileptic, may have hearing problems, may have Tourette’s syndrome or may have a sleeping disorder.

One of the other interesting facts on ADHD is that the drugs industry have made enormous profits from ADHD, simply be producing a class of drugs which range from psychostimulants to anti-depressant drugs and non-stimulant ADHD meds. None of these drugs are capable of curing this disorder nor can they really be an effective treatment on their own. Many children will find relief from their symptoms if they are on these drugs (maybe up to 70%) but the side effects and risks are causing concern among a wide variety of stakeholders. These are medical and pediatric groups, parents, some doctors and of course the FDA who have to issue regular warnings on the use of these medications.

One of the other interesting facts on ADHD is that there is now a lot of evidence which shows that obese people have a much higher ratio of ADHD than the regular population. In one study, as many as 32% of the obese group had ADHD compared with about 7% of the general population. Once these patients were treated for ADHD, they started to lose weight. The desire to snack or nibble was just part of the hyperactive syndrome.

The cause of ADHD is not known but it seems to have been around for quite some time. A quote from Hippocrates describes a similar condition which is astonishingly similar to the symptoms we notice today which can range from non-stop motion, inattention and lack of focus. There is a definite genetic link and exposure to toxins during pregnancy may be another cause.

Yet another one of the interesting facts on ADHD is that ADHD behaviour therapy is supported by most medical associations as an essential element in any ADHD treatment program. Now that ADHD psychostimulants are regarded with some caution which is understandable, natural cures for ADHD which are made from herbal or homeopathic ingredients are gaining enormous popularity. The main reason is that they have no side effects or risks to the child’s health. Imagine not having to worry about loss of appetite, dosages, sleep problems, drowsiness or suicidal thoughts ! This could be a turning point in your child’s life.

Mention homeopathy ADHD treatment and most doctors will turn a deaf ear unless they are homeopaths themselves. The main argument against homeopathy is that the solutions are so highly diluted that they cannot possible have any effect on human tissues or organs. But, as homeopaths will tell you, they do have an effect and they do cure some ailments. The exact mechanism may not be understood but they do work. Ask your doctor if he really understands how an amphetamine drug like Concerta works on a child’s neurotransmitters and he will not be able to tell you because nobody in the medical establishment to-day can answer that question. And that goes for many other drugs used to-day in modern medicine. You could also ask other embarrassing questions about the long term effects of these drugs and why they are still labelled Class II drugs by federal authorities.

Consider the advantages of homeopathic treatment for ADHD and you will understand immediately why it is growing in popularity all the time and why it is actually an approved treatment in the UK’s National Health Service. The greatest advantage in my view is that there are no side effects. No need to worry about stunted growth, loss of appetite, insomnia which are very common side effects that parents have to cope with when their children are prescribed the psychostimulants like Adderall, Concerta and Vyvanse.

The second great advantage is that homeopathy ADHD will restore the body’s delicately balanced mechanisms and calm nervous children while at the same time help them to focus better. The other great advantage is that there are no toxic substances used at all in the preparation of these remedies. Neither is there any need for medical monitoring as there are no risks of cardiac events, seizures, hallucination or other alarming risks which are causing parents to reject mind altering psychostimulants. The other interesting thing about homeopathic treatment for ADHD is that the effects are long lasting whereas with psychostimulants, the parent has to worry about extended release and watch dosage times carefully to avoid the child crashing.

It is time to take a much broader enlightened look at homeopathy ADHD and assess it for what it is. We can also weigh up its benefits and decide what is best for our children. The parent will be looking at the best ADHD behavioral therapy options available as well as looking after diet, exercise and school support. Big Pharm is everywhere and pushing mind altering drugs down our kids’ throats. Time to take a step back from the brink and give homeopathy ADHD a chance.

What if I told you that your child might be at risk from sudden death or a heart attack if he or she were taking ADHD conventional medication? This has actually happened in Canada where the ADHD drug Adderall has been withdrawn. It is easy to understand why parents are turning to ADHD homeopathic remedies which are safe, effective and much cheaper ! There is absolutely no need to have your child go through a cardiac check up before taking these medicines. There are no side effects with homeopathic ADHD remedies – period!

It was Hippocrates, the father of medicine, who also invented homeopathy – treating like with like.

How does homeopathy work? If you peel an onion you may start having all the symptoms of a cold or allergy – watery eyes and running nose. Allium Cepa is the substance (extracted from the onion) which causes this reaction in a healthy person and if we give it as a homeopathic remedy for a cold or allergy which have the same symptoms, then the body’s immune system will be stronger and be able to fight the cold symptoms. There are a whole list of homeopathic substances which have been carefully studied by homeopaths as a help to alleviate ADHD symptoms.

The basic principle of homeopathy is that it helps restore mind and body balance which is often distorted when a child suffers from ADHD. It aims to treat the whole person. Homeopathy is not a miracle cure but it can make a child’s and parent’s life more tolerable.

Can you imagine a natural cure for ADHD which does not use chemicals or harmful additives and is easy to take? The substances are taken from plants and minerals which have great healing and restorative powers. Homeopathic remedies are sweet tasting and can be administered to kids very easily by placing the tiny pills under the tongue. The only precaution one has to take is to avoid using your hands to give the medicine – you can use the cap of the bottle or container for this purpose. Another precaution – you have to make sure that the medicine is not given after the child has eaten some very strong flavours such as caffeine, chocolate or mint.

In deciding which company to aim for you will need to ensure that it is a quality supplier – you can easily gauge this from their website. You may want to know if there is an unconditional one year guarantee- that is very rare these days. Does the website provide a host of informative articles and free ebooks for downloading ? You should also ascertain if the ADHD homeopathic remedies developed by the company are under FDA supervision and employ qualified clinical psychologists and trained homeopaths – if so, you can feel safe in the knowledge that your ADHD child is getting the best possible ADHD treatment. The link below will give you all the information so that you can decide for yourself.

Being the parent of a child with ADHD requires a lot of discipline and consistency.  Our approach combines positive aspects of a sensory motor hemispheric approach with a negative aspects including removal of things known to be associated with epigenetic triggers.  The sensory motor integration requires consistency in order to make progress toward long term changes.  Sticking to a specific diet such as Gluten Casein Free can also be quite demanding.  Our office also asks parents to do one more thing that is unpopular with children and parents trying to maintain their sanity.  That is to limit screen time, meaning TV, video games and the internet.  Below are two scientific articles that support our integration of this technique to our multifaceted approach.

Attention deficit hyperactivity symptoms and internet addiction.

Yoo HJ, Cho SC, Ha J, Yune SK, Kim SJ Hwang J, Chung A, Sug YH, Lyoo IK.

Department of Psychiatry, Gyeongsang National University College of Medicine, Jinju, South Korea.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between attention deficit-hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms and Internet addiction. In total, 535 elementary school students (264 boys, 271 girls; mean age, 11.0 +/- 1.0 years) were recruited. The presence or severity of Internet addiction was assessed by the Young’s Internet Addiction test. Parents and teachers of the children completed the DuPaul’s attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) rating scale (ARS; Korean version, K-ARS) and Child Behavior Checklists. Children with the highest and lowest quartiles in K-ARS scores were defined to be in ADHD and non-ADHD groups, respectively. Five children (0.9%) met criteria for a definite Internet addiction and 75 children (14.0%) met criteria for a probable Internet addiction. K-ARS scores had significant positive correlations with Young’s Internet Addiction test scores. The Internet addiction group had higher total scores of K-ARS and ADHD-related subcategories in the Child Behavior Checklists than the non-addiction group. The ADHD group had higher Internet addiction scores compared with the non-ADHD group. Therefore, significant associations have been found between the level of ADHD symptoms and the severity of Internet addiction in children. In addition, current findings suggest that the presence of ADHD symptoms, both in inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity domains, may be one of the important risk factors for Internet addiction.

The information below is quoted from NeuroPsychiatry. Vol.5, No.3, May 2004

Is Excessive Television viewing in Children Linked to ADHD?

“Watching too much television has been implicated in increased violent behavior and obesity in young children, and now there is evidence that it may promote inattention. Researchers have found that television exposure in children ages 1 to 3 is associated with attention problems at age 7. Furthermore, the investigators concluded that each hour of television watched per day increases these children’s risk of attention problems, such as attention- deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), by almost 10% at age 7.”

Time to Turn Off the Television?

“Our results have some important implications if replicated in future studies,” the researchers summarized in the April issue of Pediatrics. “First, we added inattention to the previously studied deleterious consequences of excessive television viewing, including violent behavior and obesity. Second, our findings suggest that preventive action can be taken with respect to attentional problems in children. Limiting young children’s exposure to television as a medium during formative years of brain development consistent with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendations may reduce children’s subsequent risk of developing ADHD.”

The ADHD or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is indeed a psychological disorder. It is psychological disease which generally changes how a child behaves, think, and feel. Nearly all children suffering from this disease are overactive and lacking concentration at times.

The most important part in the process of treatment of any disease is the support that a patient or the victim gets from the people around him. Thus a person suffering from ADHD especially children require huge support from his parents, teachers, his doctors and all other people surrounding him. ADHD support groups can provide a key support, not only to the child suffering from the disease but also to the parents of the child.

Programs and Books

There are even programs and books that guide parents on how to build up a relationship with your child and check if your child is suffering from ADHD. This can be very helpful against misdiagnosis of ADHD. Health care professionals need to have a detailed study before diagnosing any patient to see if it is just a kind of disorder or the patient is actually suffering from ADHD.

Need for ADHD Support Groups

ADHD is a disease which affects the mental well being of a person, especially of children. The disease is not very easy to diagnose nor is it easy to treat. The treatment of this disease requires accurate diagnosis and the help of professional psychiatrists and psychologists.

In such a situation parents of the affected child may not always have the necessary information about the ways and means to treat the disease. This is where ADHD Support Groups step in. They can provide the necessary information about the medical help that can be sought to cure ADHD. They can also provide the information regarding the professional psychologists and trainers who could be consulted for the treatment of ADHD.

Influence of these Support Groups:

Such support groups can play a very crucial part in helping the child and also his parents to overcome this disease. Apart from being the source of information for the medical aid for the parents, they also act as an emotional support for the parents. They bring together such parents together whose children are suffering from ADHD. Thus the parents can share their problems and thoughts with one another. Also such groups can act as friendly platforms where parents can learn, share and relate to with respect to the disease.

ADHD Support Groups:

1.Anna Jacques Hospital provides ADHD support groups.

2.Al Anon Support Group

3.Awake

4.CHADD

Conclusion

In every walks of life an individual requires support. When it comes to supporting in course of a disease, support, can be the corner stone in curing it. Thus the support groups can be a boon for the children suffering from ADHD and also for their parents.

Kids downing Zoloft for ADHD? Are you spoofing me?

In my former psychotherapy practice practice, we would prescribe Zoloft for adults with pretty severe psychiatric disorders. And now we’re giving this stuff to young kids and teens.

When you’re through with reading this article, you’ll really get why Zoloft may not be the superior choice for managing ADHD.

Ok, I’ll admit, though it is not a usually approved treatment for ADHD, Zoloft has been known to help in the diminution of signs of ADHD in some people. Zoloft for ADHD is often offered in addition to stimulants such as Ritalin and Adderall.

The grounds for why Zoloft and stimulants are offered in a mixture is because many people who suffer from ADHD also have problems with other disturbances such as depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety and others. Zoloft may also be helpful in treating the hyper-focused type of ADHD versus the inattentive type.

The main difficulty with giving Zoloft for ADHD therapy is its dangerous side effects when consumed alone and in combination with other drugs.

Potential side effects of Zoloft include anxiety, panic, irritability, aggression, problems sleeping, impulse problems, and mania.

In addition to psychological side effects, Zoloft can also cause tangible signs such as muscle tissue shakes, flu-like symptoms, problems with speech, extreme skin rash, jaundice, cardiac palpitations, and clouded vision.

Using Zoloft for ADHD therapy presents the most dangers when taken in adjunct with other drugs. For example, taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOs) even two weeks before using Zoloft can be life-threatening.

Severe side effects can also occur if a client switches from Zoloft to another serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drug.

One of the more debatable aspects of children and adolescents using Zoloft and ADHD treatments is the aggression, homicidal behavior and suicidal thoughts that may follow. This has resulted in plenty of lawsuits against Pfizer, the company that produces Zoloft.

There have been numerous stories in the news shows about adults and children who have committed or attempted to commit homicide after using SSRI drugs like Zoloft.

(In fact, the two teens who murdered their classmates and then killed themselves in the Columbine shooting were using SSRI drugs.)

Finally, like most very strong prescriptive medication, research studies which help determine danger are all short-term. There are no studies on the impact of Zoloft on ADHD when taken for a 5 – 10 years or more. Such studies are too long lasting and expensive.

And, yet, understanding what we now understand about how the seeds of many adult disorders are planted in childhood, do you gainsay that consuming very powerful ADHD prescriptive drugs can possibly result in serious disturbances in adulthood? I do not.

So don’t go tossing the stimulants & Zoloft out of the window. Using natural alternatives for ADHD requires thinking and qualified medical professional help.

But do consider alternate, safer treatments to strong prescription medications.

My first question is:- Is ADHD an illness? No, it is what is described as a mental disorder. That is, that children ADHD have problems with their neurotransmitters which send signals to their nervous system. In practical terms, that means that when a child has ADHD s/he has great problems in controlling their behaviour. It becomes a real handicap for the child when his or her normal development is compromised because of this disorder. Impulsivity, hyperactivity and daydreaming are some of the most common disturbances we see in these children.

My second question is :- How common is this condition in children? Among children ADHD has been estimated at 4% and 15%. It is three times more common in boys than in girls. There is a strong genetic link in that if a parent has had ADHD himself/herself, then there is a 60% chance that one or more of their children will also suffer from this condition. As to exactly why this is so, nobody knows although recently, two Israeli scientists have identified two genes which may be responsible for behaviour disorders in children.

My third question is :- Why are ADHD drugs considered to be so risky? Most drugs carry a FDA warning about possible side effects and obviously these are rare but there have been alarming cases of sudden deaths and cardiac arrest. The most recent warning concerns children ADHD hallucinating. The Canadian government withdrew Adderall XR in Canada because of these risks. That is why doctors recommend that any if any child has ADHD, they should have an ECG before beginning treatment with ADHD psychostimulant drugs.

My fourth question :- Will the drugs cure ADHD? No, there is no cure for ADHD at the moment. The drugs stimulate the brain so that problems of concentration and attention span, together with control over impulsivity will be kept under control. These are amphetamines so they are powerful mind altering drugs. But there are other much safer ADHD treatments which are just as effective in controlling symptoms.

My fifth question :- If a child has ADHD and is/has been on ADHD medication, will he be able to lead a normal life? It depends on many factors including the home and school environment. But as these amphetmanine and methylphenidate drugs (Ritalin, Adderall, Risperdal and Vyvanse) are actually classed as schedule II drugs by the Drug Enfrorcement Administration, there may be obstacles in them entering the military or other government jobs. There is an onus on the parent to keep all the medicines under lock and key as these psychostimulants are in high demand on the school parking lot. There may be a risk of drug abuse if a child has ADHD.

Why risk your child’s development, happiness and future job prospects by taking ADHD drugs which can and do cause problems? There are ADHD natural treatments which , if your child has ADHD, can be administered safely and effectively and there is no risk at all of addiction. Join thousands of wiser parents who have succeeded in bringing up their children to lead happy and successful lives.

The ADHD or Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is disease which is a psychological disorder. Abnormal symptoms of hyperactivity and consideration deficits may be diagnosed as the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Nearly all children suffering from this disease are overactive and lacking concentration at times.

About 3 to 5 percent of children suffer from ADHD. ADHD is found at a higher rate in males than in females in their childhood. Sometimes ADHD may continue even till adulthood. It is found in even number in adults too. In adults the main causes of ADHD are depression, hot temperedness, anxiety and disturbed lifestyle.

With advanced study and research, the field of medicine has progressed with leaps and bounds. It has come up with cures for almost all the diseases. The research for such medicines still continues. But do all the drugs supposed to cure the diseases really perform their role or in turn throw up other range of different problems. This could be the problem associated with the drug called Ritalin prescribed over the disease Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD.

There is a particular pattern that doctors follow nowadays that include filling up questionnaire by children and even counseling the parents is required. To avoid misdiagnosis of ADHD, a detailed study is required as to know exactly if the problem persists for years or is it a temporary behavior change.

Not much research have been done in this field but there are mainly two types of treatment which is generally used to cure the ADHD types of treatment for ADHD; pharmacological and non-pharmacological. Normally in these days the psychologist prescribes the psycho stimulant drugs such as Ritalin. Concereta with some non-stimulant drugs such as Starterra as well as amphetamines, such as Dexedrine and

Adderall.

What is the current research on ADHD?

There is not much research have been done in this field that is why there are not many ways to treat the Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The scientist and psychologist are not very sure the causes of this disorder. There are also many side effects of the ADHD drugs. There is a need to find the alternative drugs and medications.

A research is also done on the behavioral pattern of the various persons suffering from this disorder in the various age groups. In another research it is been found that the cases of this disorder is increasing in all age groups. It is found that this disease is more common in boys as compared to girls.

What is the significance of ADHD research?

The research proposes may help to provide an alternative method of treatment that reduces the evident symptoms normally associated with the child suffering from ADHD.

The research work in this field is in initial stages. There is a lot to be done to cure this disorder successfully. Because of these researches a new drugs and medications are coming and also because of these researches the behavioral pattern of the person suffering from this disease is being found out and also the dietary habits to be followed is being found out.
