I know that there aren’t actually cures, but what can help a person be less restless, and more focused and attentive?
You can help ADHD symptoms with coffee or tea, the caffeine works in the reverse for ADHD, same as the prescription meds for this condition is a stimulant, so is caffeine. Don’t use sweetened caffeine drinks. Avoid sugar and foods with a lot of artificial coloring.
I’ve recently been diagnosed with ADHD having been misdiagnosed with Borderline years ago.
I’m very interested in getting together with other adults who suspect they may have this condition, as it’s only recently recognised that adults have this condition (mostly undiagnosed from childhood).
The NHS are reluctant to treat this condition which can have disasterous effects on the person not receiving treatment, & also their family. I’m a mother & my children also have ADHD & related conditions (previously undiagnosed for years) which led to two serious family breakdowns that could’ve been avoided if awareness was raised & I’d been taken seriously by NHS services.
If anyone would like more information please leave your details, & I’ll contact you with details of support sites.
If you’re female with difficulties & think these could be signs of ADHD I have a link to an excellent self rating scale for women: http://tinyurl.com/yq29so

My son is 18 and I resisted getting him labelled when he was young, probably the most serious mistake I made with his upbringing! He could have achieved more at school and now he is fighting to be diagnosed.
I do not leave personal details here but I can be contacted through my profile page.
I will get my son to check out the site…thanks.
EDIT: I checked the link and stopped counting the yeses at 30, sounds like he definitely has it!
he was diagnosed in kindergarten and is now in grade 10 his specialist has recently changed his medication in hopes of helping him focus better in school and have more ambition the new medication is very expensive and not covered under my disability.
My daughter has the same problem .$135 for 1 month’s medication
We are going to see if the Child Mental Health Department can help with the cost.
basically referring DSM-IV (KAPLAN &SADOCK)

now go do your own work!! <says this light-heartedly>
My friend and i were having a dispute about ADD/ADHD, and he said that everyone has add, and only some people have worse cases of it and so show more symptoms, i disagreed with him because i always thought that ADD/ADHD is on a spectrum, but everyone doesn’t have it.
I have ADD, i do not however have ADHD. to me ADD is just the disability to not be able to pay attention, ADHD is not being able to pay attention and be extremely hyper. Not eveyone has ADD. your friend is wrong. If you have ADHD, you also have ADD. its just ADD plus the H.
There are many opinions about medication and ADD/ADHD. Some people believe medication can be very beneficial while others say things such as "It’s the way they were born, and the way they are supposed to be and medication shouldn’t be used to change that" or believe that ritalin is addicting or that ADHD is something people outgrow and adults don’t need meds etc.
I am doing a speech on ADD/ADHD and also re evaluating treatment for my ADHD which I was diagnosed with and put on ritalin for at age 5.
I would greatly appreciate any opinions on this issue, explanations/reasons for why or why not would be great as opposed to one word yes or no answers. Thanks!!
Ritalin works great for me
I take 20 of the sr or whatever in the morning
And 10 @ noon on school days
When I graduate I will quit taking it
But for *now* its more beneficial for me to take it
Concerta is special. (But expensive)
Its made in a way that there is no chance of addiction (in the negative way. Can’t snort it and its extended release so its different)
Yes. Adults can grow out of it.
But its safer for me and my school work
Im a straight A student. But if I didn’t take ritalin I would easily be a c-d person. That’s how it was when I was younger.
Hi. I am working in Seoul for a month now and I am covered with national insurance. Do they have the same ADHD meds as in the US? I was showing great results on low doses of adderall, ritalin and focalin. All 3 worked great at 25 mg/day. Does anyone know if they recognise ADHD in Korea, what meds they have and how to get them? I will run out in 2 months. Thanks.
Hi Snowsinthedark
Here are some ideas on healing the issue.
Causes of ADHD/ADD-like Behavior
A variety of factors can cause the hyperactivity symptoms that can lead to a diagnosis of ADHD or ADD. They include undetected learning disabilities, food and environmental allergies, gastrointestinal disorders such as leaky gut syndrome, systemic yeast overgrowth, known as Candidiasis, heavy metal toxicity, poor diet, nutritional imbalances, and emotional upsets such as those caused by family problems. In some cases, the problem can also be due to undetected vision problems, such as the need for eyeglasses for reading. The overuse of antibiotics, as well as vaccines and immunization, can also cause symptoms of hyperactivity and/or ASDHD/ADD. Antibiotics can trigger allergic reactions and cause the gastrointestinal tract to become depleted of healthy bacteria, leading to candidiasis, while vaccines can severely compromise a child’s still- developing immune system, and cause other serious health problems, including neurological damage.
Quick Action Plan for ADHD/ADD-like Symptoms
1. Avoid the use of dangerous pharmaceutical drugs, such as Ritalin and Adderal.
2. Recognize that the majority of ADHD/ADD diagnoses are inaccurate, and can be based on little or no scientific evidence.
3. If you, your child or teen suffer from ADHD/ADD-like symptoms, be sure to explore all possible factors that may be causing hyperactivity. Essential to consider is poor diet, nutritional imbalances, undiagnosed learning disabilities and/or vision problems, lack of emotional support, heavy metal toxicity, and food and environmental allergies, all of which should be screened for.
4. Avoid all sugars, wheat products, refined carbohydrates, sodas, processed foods, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, corn syrup, alcohol, and hydrogenated and trans-fatty oils.
5. Avoid foods high in salicylates such as apples, almonds, oranges, peppers, and tomatoes.
6. Emphasize organic fresh fruits and vegetables, organic whole grains such as amaranth and quinoa, organic free-range meats, poultry, and wild-caught fish, and drink plenty of pure, filtered water.
7. Nutritional supplements include vitamin B-complex, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, folic acid, essential fatty acids (EFAs), omega-3 oils, digestive enzymes, and probiotic supplements such as acidophilus and bifidus bacterium, tinctured zeolite and chlorella.
8. Chamomile, linden flower, milk thistle, and red clover may be useful herbs.
9. If heavy metal toxicity is a factor, consider working with a physician trained in the use of chelation therapy.
10. Many excellent books on healing ADHD are available; recommend "Children with Starving Brains" by Jaquelyn McCandless, M.D., and "A Path to Success" by Lawrence Weathers, Ph.D.
Best of health to you
For ADD/ADHD medication for my teenager, how does Attend compare in terms of sucess, and harmful side effects, to Rittalin? does it work the same? is it better or worse?
Please do not misintrepret medications as remedies.
Medications in general, but especially ones like Clonadine, Ritalin, Zyprexa, etc. are to aid in the success of something, be it sleep, less pressure that will active OCD, and to help eliminate depression.
I have not heard much about Attend, is this a newer medication ? I’d highly suggest looking for online reviews on it, by googlin "attend reviews", etc.
Best of luck
My son is 4 and in preschool. A few days ago the teacher told me that it took him an hour and a half to make a paper chain as to where it only took the other kids about 20 mins. She also said that he has a hard time telling what is the same and what is different and a few other things. She asked me if there is anyone in my family with learning disabilities or ADHD. Well not my family, but his Daddy! His Daddy has both. We are divorced and I told him what the teacher said. He told me "well it is very likely because they are genetic but you are NOT putting my son on meds for ADHD. I had to go through that and he is not" My Mom also said that she doesn’t want me to put him on meds. So if he does have ADHD is there other ways that I can help him with out having to put him on medication? Is 4 too young to for it to actually be diagnosed?
Diet and sleep have a lot to do with it as well… I am a parent eductor and know that what they eat and how much sleep has a lot to do with things… ALso think that many kids are intrested in different things.. maybe crafts arnt his thing… Maybe the teacher has the wrong approach on it.. Look up ADD online and see what you can find out and also ask your Pediatrician..

Should we give our children who suffer from ADHD, medication or Transcendental Meditation?
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), although stimulant medications are an effective first-line treatment for ADHD, concern persists regarding the possible side effects and long-term health outcomes associated with stimulant consumption.
As parents and educators search for options and alternatives, groundbreaking research is showing the effectiveness of the Transcendental Meditation technique, a non-drug approach to ADHD. Insights in Health explores the research and experiences using the Transcendental Meditation technique for ADHD.
