After ten years of medication for depression, PTSD and ADHD how do I know when I can start reducing meds? My doctor says due to my progress it is time but is up to me. I have been totally stable for several months. My doc says it is up to me what should I do? I take high doses of a lot of meds and dont want to damage my organs from high dosages of various scripts if I do not have to. Any thoughts? Please?
well let me see ….. i am schizo affective and i have been off my meds for about 4 years now and doing great..the only thing i can say is test yourself. make a comittment to ask your doctor if its the right thing for you to do if the meds are bothering you or you might feel fine but you could relaps. take your time and feel the waters first..i did. the only thing that i hgave a hard time on is back lashes from autotory and memory loss form the previous meds i was on..good luck and hope it works out for you.
If children and adults, would STOP eating processed food, we would see many of these ailments go away! Children eat Lunchables, Crustables, etc, for lunch. These type of foods are high in sodium, caffeine, sugar and chemicals!!! Our laziness is causing obesity, ADD, ADHD, diabetes…I could go on forever. While I have no real data to cite, I do base my hypothesis on my years of teaching 5th grade. Children are not the same as they were 10 yrs ago. IT’S DIET!!!!
as title says
please answer guys, what symptoms would one have to display if he were to receive medication (prescription) from a doctor?

Strattera is a non-stimulant treatment with low addiction/abuse risks. Does anyone actually get a "buzz" or otherwise good feelings from this medication? Or otherwise?
It works for me. Brought back the ability to focus and complete thoughts and projects.
Like I know pretty much for fact I’m ADHD but…
I read what people with bipolar act like, I can’t ever see myself in the past present or future ever acting like that.
I don’t take medication for anything, and I’m perfectly fine so why do I get this label?
If you saw my title you’d know I said the doctor diagnosed me with bi polar and adhd, not that I diagnosed myself.
A regular GP or family doctor is not trained to make such diagnosis. To get a proper diagnosis you need to see a psychiatrist. Do not allow yourself to be a label until someone who is qualified tells you so and if in fact you are diagnosed with either of these conditions, please remember that they are illnesses, not labels and are treatable.
i know adderal is by far the most expensive adhd medication, and was hoping to know what my other options were before i went in to talk to the doctor
I’ve taken both and I have had different levels of dosing for both as well as Ritalin. Its strange but the dosage and what medicine you take is different for everyone. It took me about a year to get settled into adderal but I think its the best, for me at least. It doesn’t make me jittery or anxious, when on dexedrine I was very shaky but I am a music major and I have to perform alone quit often so being shaky and anxious was not an option for me especially because it gets worse in stressfull situations when your nervous. I would go in and ask questions because after a while my doctor said "well lets try the adderal, but i’m warning you I haven’t had one patient yet who has done well on it" and now i’ve been taking it for 4 years.
Ask a lot of questions and go in with an open mind because it may take a few months to really find something right for you. Believe me it is worth it to take the time. Try to record how you feel every week you take the medicine and think about the bad things you feel and the good things because your doctor will want to hear both.
Hope this helps!
Good luck!!! I hope you end up finding something quickly that isn’t too expensive! lol
From what I read on the internet, I strongly feel in suffer with it and always have. I never seen a Dr. for it. What should I do. I feel its effected my life for to long. Im ready for help.
Yes, talk to your regular Doctor. She can make referrals else where for more specific treatment probably to a psychiatrist or therapist,. Your normal PCP may not diagnose you, but the new one will ask you some questions and work with you on figuring out a way to treat whatever it is that is going on.
If however your doctor just throws pills at you (it happens, quite often), don’t accept it. Insist on a referral or find a new doctor and ask them for help. Pills can help, but it is much better to take them under guidance of a psychiatrist.
And what is the difference?

This link might be helpful. Seek a doctors advice. It can be a miserable life if not under control.
Please explain your answer, include other treatments that you think would be effective.
julwortham I’m talking about legal meds not METH.
Children who truly need medicine to help them live a "normal " life benefit in most cases by taking the meds. I have a family member who takes meds and I tell you you can tell the difference. Before being on meds, he could not concentrate on his school work. The child would tell people he couldn’t concentrate( the child never used the word focus , always used the word concentrate). The child said his head was going too fast. When the child was put on a small dose of meds it was enough to help improve his success at school. In his home he has always had routine. He is active in sports and is in every aspect a regular kid. There are risks with taking any medication, even aspirin. No medications should be taken without being informed about the pros and cons. I don’t condone taking meds to make life easier but for making your life better, there is a big difference,
My son has been diagnosed with autism and adhd. The older he gets, the more impulsive and hyperactive he becomes. It is often hard to deal with him, especially in public, because of his behavior. He is receiving Occupational Therapy once a week in school, and will also be receiving an additional hour of outside OT soon. He is not currently on medication, as the neurologists have told me that a lot of meds that work for ADHD have adverse effects in kids with autism. Plus I am nervous about the effects they may have on him. We tried Focalin for a while, which had no benefit and even seemed to make him more aggressive. He is also on a gluten free-casein free diet. Any informative suggestions would be appreciated.
Here are some ideas from a parent of 2 children with autism and adhd. As for your child acting out in public, children with Adhd and Autism often have very, very short attention spans and prone to having sensory overload. When going out in public does he have something like a blanket that he can take along as a comfort measure? You might want to try taking activities along for him to do (drawing, books,etc..) Avoid legos, they drive kids with autism and adhd up a wall!
Your child may very well need medication. Ask you doctor about a cocktail of drugs. My son takes Luvox and Risperdal everyday. We can tell when he misses a dose! He get more aggressive, acts out, is hard to redirect.
May I suggest that the parents get on some sort of anti-depression medication. Having a special needs child can be VERY harrowing!!!
If you need any more help don’t hesitate to ask. We can arrange a way to chat.
