It would be more expensive for me to see a psychologist for ADHD than it would my primary physician. However, are primary doctors allowed to prescribe medications like Adderall, Ritalin, etc.?
They can prescribe ADD meds, but the question is, are they able to diagnose ADD? Primary care physicians may not be comfortable prescribing controlled substances, so discuss this with your primary care Dr.
what natural adhd treatment did you use and helped
never used any.
What different symptoms and problems between Austim and ADHD?
An easy way to think about it is that with ADHD everything on the outside stimulates them, so they are hyper and want to go and explore the world. With autism everything on the inside stimulates them, that is why they lack social skills, have problems learning, and it looks like they are checked out.
ADHD problems: I would say keeping them from destroying anything, helping with school work, keeping their attention.
Autism problems: teaching them not just social skills but also educational skills. Finding help and the right program for them. Tantrums because they dont understand. Some are nonverbal. They engage in self injurious behavior at times.
I need help is Caffeine Treatment for ADD & ADHD my 7 year old has ADD & ADHD and he has a hard time getting going in the mornings and i had i can give him caffeine and it will help can some one help me
Your son (or daughter) may have difficulty getting up in the morning due to not sleeping well. That can be a difficult thing for ADHD sufferers. Getting into a habit of using things with caffeine in them can become almost like an addiction, in that it will be hard to stop using it, and may cause symptoms such as headache or digestive complaints. The better thing to do is to eliminate sugary things from your child’s diet, as well as white flour products. These things can be especially problematic for ADHD people. You may also try eliminating milk for about one week and see what the results are. Foods can have a pretty large impact on children with ADHD. Book: Allergies and the Hyperactive Child, by Dr. Doris Rapp, used booksites.
My son has ADHD. He has been on three medicines since being diagnosed in October. He seems to be more sensitive now and way more whiny. The medicine is not helping his behavorial problems. Those can be scary. Any ehlp would be nice.
What little boy doesn’t have ADHD. The doctor says my son is ADHD. I refuse to use medicine because it changes a childs personality.
1) What are the long term affects of Methamphetamine versus those of ADHD Amphetamine?
2) Will prescription Amphetamines cause de-calcification of bones or teeth?
3) Would Methamphetamine have less destructive long term physical affects if it were pharmaceutical grade opposed to street-grade?
I am curious because I have a prescription of Adderall.
Methamphetamine and Adderall are two VERY different drugs.
Chemically, methamphetamine contains a methyl group in the composition of the drug. This creates different effects.
Amphetamines, like Adderall, do NOT cause de-calcification of bones and teeth, but extensive use of Adderall can cause liver damage. Also, if Adderall is taken for a long period of time, you require more of the drug to give you the same effect. Ultimately, most patients end up changing drugs once they hit the maximum dose.
Methamphetamine isn’t available commercially (or "medical grade") because it’s categorized as a Schedule 1 Drug, meaning it has no medical purpose in the eyes of the government. Regardless of where it’s produced, methamphetamine will still have damaging effects. The only thing that is circumvented is the possibility of an "impure" drug. Ever hear the term "meth lab?"
Adderall abuse can lead to extreme weight loss, liver failure, heart palpitations and heart attacks. Take only as directed and even then tell your doctor if it seems like too much.
really great website that would help you with all your ?s

I heard there are certain vitamins that help.
My nephew was labelled ADD / ADHD (depending on the doctor) in elementary school and before that was asked to be removed from 3 daycares because of behavioral issues. His Mum came upon the research of Dr. Doris Rapp and the Feingold program and after using this information – she removed his behavioral ‘triggers’ and he became one of the nicest, even-keeled boy who could focus for long periods of time… that you could ever meet. He still was high energy like you’d expect boys to be – but in a positive and productive way.
The book she started with was "Is This Your Child?" and then later "Is This Your Child’s World?" (or environment). Some kids and adults just get ‘triggers’ from what they eat and/or from their environment… like people who get migraines triggered from perfumes or those kids who actually are affected by certain food coloring. I used to get headaches from working in an office with flourescent lighting. My nephew had to stay away from salicylates – and red food coloring (others were okay) and then he was fine. Every child is different.
If memory serves correctly – Dr. Doris Rapp is a pediatric allergist – researcher. You can probably find her book(s) at most stores. (Mine are packed in boxes right now.) She presents very clear and thorough evidence as to why many children are mislabelled ADD or ADHD – and that they are just being triggered by something depending on their own personal level of sensitivity.
Don’t worry – it may not mean turning your life upsidedown. But, depending on how severe the ’symptoms’ are – let me tell you my nephew’s experience was like Jekyll and Hyde!
I have also seen evidence in my own children of their own specific triggers – when I see unusually red cheeks for no reason or a certain color of dark circles appear under their eyes and it’s not from lack of sleep – or the bottoms of their ears get red. After keeping a diary documenting things it was evident that my youngest was extremely crabby after having anything with red food coloring.
This can be applied to adults also. In my own case ice cream makes me feel restless and irritable unless it’s 100% natural (like Breyer’s). Believe me, my family is happier when I’m careful about these things. And, when using one particular line of hair gel and hair spray – the bottoms of my ears turn bright red. The body is very good at giving signs. The stuff from Dr. Rapp is great to help interpret the signs and maybe direct you to a local allergist through a nation-wide database, who can help you further.
I believe she has her own website now (my nephew is now in high school and is on the Honor Roll.) – so that would likely provide some great resources and links for other info to help you.
I thought the business about the food coloring and such was nonsense until I saw it for myself. But – it also doesn’t mean every kid has trouble with it. Good luck to you!
If you do not have a child with ADD or ADHD or are not a doctor, professional, specialist, etc. in the treatment of ADD/ADHD, please refrain from adding your opinion or beliefs to this post. I say opinion because unless you have agonized and struggled with the raising of a child that has this, you have no idea what we parents go through when having to make the decision to put our children on medication just to be able to help them focus long enough to teach them to tie their shoes or write their names.
My question is this, what is the stupidest thing a person has said to you when they find out your child has ADD/ADHD?
At the pool last summer I shared with a group of women that my youngest was ADHD. I later over heard one comment that only lazy mothers put thier children on medication as to not have to discipline them or deal with them. If this was the case I would have both my children on meds and not be a nanny to my pediatrician who sought me out for the job.
You are not alone, though sometimes it feels that way. My son will be 7 in a couple of months and has been on medication since he was 4 and started pre-school. My friends and family have all made comments about him being on the meds, but even with him on medication he is a handful. Ignore the people that make ignorant comments and do what is best for your child. If these people had to live your life for one day, they would be the ones on meds.
I am 16 and my little cousin is 10 and my mom and I think she either has ADD or ADHD or both…?
She hardly eats, she cannot sit still to save her life, and she is constantly on the go, seldom sleeps, and her mom doesn’t want to hear us out.
What do you think?
ADD and ADHD are very difficult diagnoses to make. Diseases are only diseases if there’s an actual problem. Not being able to sit still isn’t actually problem in iteslf. (And isn’t remotely sufficient to diagnose ADD or ADHD).
